Anyone attending an event at the internationally known Sagamore Resort will find Hilltop Cottage B&B one mile away.

The Richards' B&B is furnished in a traditional style with family pieces and some antiques. Pictures and decorative items reflect the host's German heritage and also the association with the former estate. Anita is fluent in German.

Our Heritage

Hilltop Cottage was the name given this farmhouse built in 1924 as the caretaker's cottage for the Stengel-DeCoppet Estates on 'Millionaire's Row' along the Lake George to Bolton road.

From 1921-35, Marcella Sembrich (Stengel), Metropolitan Opera Diva [1883-1909], summered on her estate across the road. Vocal students from Juilliard & Curtis Institute who studied summers with Madame Sembrich occupied the 2nd floor guest rooms at Hilltop Cottage.

Sembrich's former teaching studio, a few minutes walk from Hilltop, has been a Museum of mementos from her career since 1937. It affords visitors a scenic walk along 1,000 feet of Lake George shoreline.
